When I was in school, there was an obvious problem with child exploitation. This came in many forms, but one of the more obvious was the push to think whatever teachers wanted us to think. This included the intentionally skewed portrayal of history and attempts to convince students who couldn't even vote to fight for the passage of levies. There is no question whatsoever that my teachers used their position of authority to manipulate children.

Parental Rights in Education bill

There has been a lot of outrage aimed at a couple of bills coming out of Florida. One in particular, the Parental Rights in Education bill, has fueled all kinds of anger throughout the country. Despite the strong opinions, a lot of people don't even know the name of the bill. It is frequently identified as the "Don't Say Gay" bill.

Sacred Ground

Less than a year ago, I posted about how our schools could be thought of as a religion by some definitions. This was not a new thought for me. For years, teachers have insisted that their choice of profession is a “higher calling.” That term strongly implies that they were chosen by a higher power.

Agenda-driven curriculum

I have been openly critical of patriotic education from the very beginning. There are a lot of other people right now criticizing the 1776 commission. This might catch some people by surprise, but I am upset with the people who have been vocally critical of the same concept that I have criticized.

The anti-educational candidate

It's no secret that I support educational rights. From my perspective, Joe Biden has crossed far too many lines. An argument can even be made that he is the most anti-educational major party candidate that we have ever seen.

Sanders, teachers, and young voters

Teachers are boasting about being the biggest supporters of Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders is bragging about his support from younger voters. Considering he is openly socialist, both of these are concerning. The combination of the two is even worse. Teaching is an influential and authoritarian profession. I have been known to criticize them for using their position of authority to exploit children. The biggest donors for the Sanders campaign has influence over one of his strongest blocks of voters. Am I the only one who sees the problem with this?

What impact will remote learning have?

As a Washingtonian, I have been hearing a lot about COVID-19. Schools are closing around me. Generally speaking, this is a good thing. Unfortunately, many of these schools aren't enabling children to pursue education outside of a schooling environment. Instead, they are finding ways to bring conventional schooling to children at their homes without addressing their numerous deficiencies.

Concentration camps

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grabbed headlines when she compared immigrant detention centers to concentration camps. A lot of people were offended that she would compare these facilities to those run by national socialists. Academic historians came to her rescue and insisted that the detention centers fit the historical classification. Some of them have even taken the time to explain what a concentration camp really is. Here is an example of a definition provided by someone defending the claim:

My thoughts regarding Betsy DeVos

I have been busy lately, and I haven't had a lot of time to look into all the details of how Betsy DeVos plans on running the Department of Education. This is why I have been reluctant to write about her. Despite some of these details still being missing, I feel that I have enough information now to share my thoughts.

The myth of the uneducated voter

Ever since the media pushed the argument about uneducated voters supporting Donald Trump, I have considered writing about some serious issues that I have with the argument. Today, I read an article that helped me make up my mind. The Seattle Times posted a piece of liberal trash by someone who seemed absolutely clueless about what he was writing.

My former school praised

In the past, I created a series of posts based off of my schooling history. Each of my schools (with the exception of the school responsible for a monitored homeschooling program) maintained blatantly anti-educational values. Recently, both traditional high schools in my old district, including the school I attended in my Freshman and Sophomore year, made the U.S. News list of best public high schools.

Washington promise program

Democrats in our state just proposed an unfunded plan to provide free tuition to community colleges. If you have followed my blog at all, you already know where I stand on this one. Check out Misconception #13 for what I have stated about the idea of free or affordable college fixing our problems. I am going to repeat a few of these statements as I respond to some of the things I read in an AP article (although I do not approve of reliance of the AP for local stories) at Komo's website.
