The right way

What is the right way to make mathematical calculations? What is the right way to write an essay? What is the right way to interpret history? What is the right way to learn? What is the right way to do anything?

There is no right way to do anything. There are numerous different options. These options relate to individuals differently. The best way for you to accomplish a task is not necessarily the best way for me to accomplish the same task.

This is one of many things that the schools don’t understand. I have heard debates over which math book is best to use for entire classes. It never occurs to people that the best book is not necessarily the same for everyone. I have heard about the proper steps to prove a scientific theory. That’s too restrictive for some. I have also observed teachers addressing their classes with a single lesson taught in the same way. Never mind that no two students learn in the exact same way.

The schools seem to believe in training people to do things the right way. Whenever they do this, they harm individual rights. They harm anyone who wants to be a strong individual. They harm those who want to maximize the benefits of their personal strengths.

This problem is one of many components of the schooling process that I despise. As time has progressed, the belief in a right way to do things has expanded. A silly example of this would be the iPhone. Many people who held the phone in a manner that they felt worked for them struggled with reception. Apple’s fans made a big fuss about how some people were so pathetic that they didn’t know the right way to hold a phone. What has this world come to? How did we reach a point when we all have to hold our phones in the same way?
