The Dr. Title

What does the title of Dr. mean? In short, it means someone acquired a doctorate from a college. There are good people without doctorates. There are bad people with. Simply put, people with a doctorate aren't inherently better than those without. Despite this commonsense reality, some people treat doctorates as proof of superiority.

The title of Dr. is entirely built around the flawed concept of credentialism. Instead of caring about who people are and what they have to offer, we judge people on the acquisition of academic credentials. This has essentially created a caste system where people with better pieces of paper are treated as superior to people with lesser pieces of paper. The problem with this is that these pieces of paper say nothing about who people really are. They aren't even valid measures of education as people can always learn outside of a restrictive schooling environment.

People who demand to be identified with the title of Dr. embrace this caste-like system. The title puts them in the highest class in society even though it doesn't actually prove anything worthwhile. Why would someone demand to be identified as this top tier? Arrogance. I can guarantee that no good people demand to be identified as Dr.

We need to stop obsessing over pieces of paper. We need to start caring more about who people are and what they have to offer. One of the best ways to do that is to retire the ridiculous title. Sorry, but it's not Dr. Jill Biden. It's just Jill Biden. Similarly, it's not Dr. Anthony Fauci. It's Anthony Fauci.
