What if a liberal ran into someone with homophobic tendencies? How should they act? Should they embrace cancel culture and make sure they never have to deal with that individual?
Let's think about that for a moment. What is likely to happen if someone who is homophobic is effectively prohibited from dealing with people who support the LGBTQ+ community? In short, that person will be pushed into homophobic echo chambers, reinforcing the views that liberals find so offensive. Cancel culture is an absolutely horrible way to change minds.
I think I have a better idea, although it might make members of the LGBTQ+ community uncomfortable. Expose the homophobic individuals to good people in the LGBTQ+ community. Instead of reinforcing hate, try to make it harder to hate.
This isn't just about the LGBTQ+ community. Democrats have a history of hostilities toward viewpoints that differ from their own. Cancel culture pushes people into conservative echo chambers. You can't force conservatives to embrace your views, but exposing them to alternative views is certainly better than driving them even further away. Liberals should try harder to help conservatives understand their views. In the process, I hope they will develop a better understanding of the views they so aggressively ridicule.
Education has taken on contradictory meanings. Some of us reject using the term to refer to our schools. It can be stated that our schools are at war with education. This blog was initially developed for the purpose of sharing some quick (rather than conclusive) pro-education/anti-schooling thoughts. This has been expanded to include a voice from the other side of the war. Admittedly, this voice was picked for its tendency to show the absurdities of the pro-schooling/anti-educational side.
