Over the years, I have been writing about misconceptions regarding the schooling process. The purpose of these posts is to explain why I disagree with various comments that I have heard people make about schooling. These are meant as personal thoughts rather than conclusive proof, and I will admit that I'm not always the best at explaining my thoughts. Regardless, I have decided that I should be willing to share these posts when I encounter someone online who makes an argument that I have already discussed.
I have heard teachers say such things as teaching is the best profession or teaching is the most important job. This absolutely reeks of arrogance.
During my time in the system, I knew my needs weren't being met. If I wanted my educational needs met, I had to take charge of my own education. My teachers couldn't handle the thought that I didn't need them. Because of this, they wouldn't get out of my way. In the end, they did far more to hinder my education than help.
The good news for teachers is that the vast majority of Americans takes education for granted. They never question the implications of schooling on their educations. Judging from the massive deterioration of society, it seems obvious that I wasn't the only one harmed by the system. I truly believe that we would be better off scrapping the system entirely than keeping the system that we have in place today.
Even if you don't go as far as I do, it should be obvious that the teaching profession drastically overestimates its own value. The most heavily schooled era in history is also the most mindless and the most conformist. There are definitely more important professions than teaching. Teachers boasting about their importance is insufficient to establish their importance. Instead, these boasts clearly establish arrogant tendencies within the profession.
