Myth #14: Most teachers make more money than most professional athletes

My blogmate has pushed a series of misguided posts about what he perceives as misconceptions regarding the schooling process. Because he is critical of our flawless schooling system, he is obviously wrong 110% of the time. As a fake teacher, I'm obviously the purfect person to disprove his points. I'm also 110% confident that my conclusive nonsense will be so flawless that nobody will make the mistake of believing his more rational arguments.

After years of teachers insisting that professional athletes make more money than teachers, my blog mate resorted to a seriously questionable tactic. He actually looked at the statistics. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the median salary for elementary, middle, and high school teachers all exceed the median salary for professional athletes.

This is a seriously misleading statistic. It's deceptive to compare athletes to teachers when we insist on comparing athletes to teachers. When we discuss athlete pay, we are clearly only comparing ourselves to the highest paid athletes. This is what's fair.

Besides that, are non-elite athletes really athletes? Absolutely not. We know this because we say so. Let me emphasize our narrative. Athletes are paid better than teachers.

The simple reality is that there are a lot of multi-million dollar athletes. It wouldn't be compelling enough to simply say that we are comparing ourselves to some wealthy athletes. It's a stronger statement to say that we are comparing ourselves to athletes. It is in no way deceptive to discuss only the highest paid athletes while claiming that we are comparing ourselves to athletes.
