Everything that teachers do seems to be "for the children." They strike "for the children." They push for higher wages "for the children." They have occasionally violated laws "for the children." They even systematically destroy the minds of children "for the children."
Obviously, teachers will disagree with that last point even though it is the nature of their jobs. As I have stated before, nobody takes education for granted more than the teaching profession. A lot of what we are seeing is rooted in the true reason that most teachers enter the profession.
Teachers are arrogant. They want others to view them as vital to society. Ultimately, ego is a serious driving force behind why they become teachers and how they act when they enter the profession.
When teachers strike, it's because they want to be valued more by society. When they push for higher wages, it's because of their perceived values of themselves. When they break the law, it's because they feel that they should be above the law. When they destroy minds, it's because what they want to believe about what they are doing is clouding their judgment of what they are actually doing. What they are doing is always for themselves, and never for the children.
Education has taken on contradictory meanings. Some of us reject using the term to refer to our schools. It can be stated that our schools are at war with education. This blog was initially developed for the purpose of sharing some quick (rather than conclusive) pro-education/anti-schooling thoughts. This has been expanded to include a voice from the other side of the war. Admittedly, this voice was picked for its tendency to show the absurdities of the pro-schooling/anti-educational side.
