The three W's

In the past, the schools talked about the three R's. In more recent years, they have changed their focus to STEM. I'm personally not a fan of picking out certain subjects as the most valuable to all students regardless of their differences. However, I'm willing to contribute my own gimmick along these lines. It's time to talk about the three W's.

We were wrong.

Unlike the three R's, the three W's are actually all W's. More importantly, I think it's better to fix our problems than build off of them. Schooling has been catastrophic to society. We are more mindless than ever before. Our rate of progress has significantly declined. We are giving away more of our rights. Quality of life is clearly deteriorating.

We are arrogant. We don't want to think that we are wasting time, money, and effort. We don't like to think that we have dedicated our childhoods to a cause that is actually making us worse people. This is why very few people ever question the schools and why the majority of Americans take education for granted.

There is a lot of evidence out there that the schools aren't doing what we like to think they are doing. When this evidence becomes obvious, we look for excuses that don't diminish our opinions of the concept. For example, we complain about underfunding or student-to-teacher ratios. Maybe it's the fault of the parents. Ultimately, we try to push the schools even harder.

Let's end our arrogance and admit to our mistakes. It's better to correct our problems than build off of them. Instead of screwing over future generation for our pride, I want to hear those three W's. In case you missed it earlier:

We were wrong.
