I'm sick of seeing college grads parading themselves around in merchandise bragging about which college they attended. Colleges aren't that different. You abandoned thought. Does it really matter where?
A lot of college pride revolves around nonsensical rivalries. Because there are two major colleges in the area, the nearly identical one you didn't attend is a joke. That would be like Red Sox fans hating the Yankees. Yes, it happens, but people essentially hate the team that their favorite team mimics.
Some college pride can even find its way into the workforce. If someone is looking for a potential employee to hire, they could be swayed by their alma mater. This is very similar in concept to nepotism.
We are talking about exclusionary practices. College grads tend to discriminate against those who do not follow the same path that they did. If you went to a different college, you must be inferior. Those who pursue education away from the harmful collegiate environment are treated even worse.
Can we please stop with all of the sweatshirts, license plate frames, and other college promos. When I see those, I don't see something to be proud of. I just see, "Hi. I'm mindless."
Education has taken on contradictory meanings. Some of us reject using the term to refer to our schools. It can be stated that our schools are at war with education. This blog was initially developed for the purpose of sharing some quick (rather than conclusive) pro-education/anti-schooling thoughts. This has been expanded to include a voice from the other side of the war. Admittedly, this voice was picked for its tendency to show the absurdities of the pro-schooling/anti-educational side.
