Why I don't believe in the GET program

Here in Washington, we have a program for parents to save for their children's college tuition. It's called Guaranteed Education Tuition or GET.

The idea behind this program is that parents can pay into it for guaranteed tuition. As tuition costs increase, units are retained. This protects families from skyrocketing prices.

The problem with this concept is that it relies on parents committing their children to college before they know how their children fit the traditional schooling model. If their kids learn better outside of schools, parents have to either accept a loss or push their kids into a potentially harmful environment.
