What Teachers Should Do

A lot of people think that the job of a teacher is to teach. Actually, it’s not. Teaching exists so that the government can take over the job of raising children from their parents. More importantly, the job of a teacher should not be to teach. Students should be teaching themselves.

So if the ideal role of a teacher isn’t to teach, what is it? This is actually a little tricky since schools shouldn’t even exist. If we evolved the profession into something that isn’t detrimental to society, I think I have the answer. Teachers should embrace the educational process rather than try to control it. They should assist students in the learning process. They can provide resources and encouragement. They can also get out of the way. That’s what my teachers should have done.
