The importance of art

I have heard many people criticize schools for getting rid of art programs. The arguments rely on the idea that art can get people to think for themselves. Do these people not understand the purpose of schooling?

The importance of computers

I remember in school when different math teachers took different stances on calculators. Some took a strict stance that you had to prove an understanding of how the math works. Others wanted to make sure students knew how to use a calculator.

The importance of physical education

I have already said this, but I'm going to say it again. Sports have value, but physical education is a failure.

Importance of Thought

As I have stated before, there is something far more important than literacy. That would be thought. Unlike literacy, the schools have a definitive impact on though. Unfortunately, that impact is clearly destructive.

Importance of history

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Okay, so this is actually a misquote with a lot of variations. It's also a very widely accepted belief.

Importance of math

These days, it seems like a horrible idea not to develop a basic understanding of math. How important? It's actually kind of hard to say. It can vary quite a bit depending on how you will use it. For the general public, you really only need to understand the concepts.

Importance of literacy

I can definitely see a benefit in everybody knowing how to read and write. I value literacy. Even so, I'm not entirely convinced that it's as important as everybody seems to insist.
