Misconception #164: Red states are responsible for the state of government-controlled schools

Over the years, I have been writing about misconceptions regarding the schooling process. The purpose of these posts is to explain why I disagree with various comments that I have heard people make about schooling. These are meant as personal thoughts rather than conclusive proof, and I will admit that I'm not always the best at explaining my thoughts. Regardless, I have decided that I should be willing to share these posts when I encounter someone online who makes an argument that I have already discussed.

Are you a Republican living in a red state? Are you disappointed in your schools? If so, I know how the Democrats will defend your schools. It's all the fault of Republicans. They are supposedly sabotaging the schools, and the schools in blue states are supposed to be so much better.

By the way, I live in a blue state, and I reject partisan conformity. My teachers were consistently anti-educational, intolerant, and abusive. The schools I attended were used to train citizens to show complete subservience to authoritarian figures. Success in these schools required obedience and conformity instead of intelligence and learning. Roughly half of everything my teachers told me turned out to be false. There is no question whatsoever that I would be better educated today if I had never set foot in those schools.

In school, we were trained to turn to others to dictate our beliefs, thoughts, and opinions. Teachers would threaten our futures if we failed to comply. They would fuel the fear of being wrong, and the fear of being wrong fueled a fear of independent thought. This led to a widespread destruction of thought. Systematically destroying the minds of American youth led me to a phrase that I frequently apply to schools, mental genocide.

We have a serious educational crisis in all states regardless of the political preferences of the states. Our schools were built on top of a blatantly anti-educational foundation, and they are doing far more harm than good to society. Blaming Republicans is nothing more than scapegoating. They have nothing to do with the educational crisis we have here in Washington, and it's a stretch to blame them even in red states. Let's also not forget that hyperpartisan liberal organizations such as the NEA and AFT have a lot of influence nationwide.

Addressing our educational crisis should not be a partisan issue. We should all have the right to pursue the education that is right for us. Children should not be held against their will in government-controlled institutions that are hindering their educations. Giving the government the power to control and restrict education was an enormous mistake regardless of which party has that power. This isn't a Republican problem. It's a government problem.
