Over the years, I have been writing about misconceptions regarding the schooling process. The purpose of these posts is to explain why I disagree with various comments that I have heard people make about schooling. These are meant as personal thoughts rather than conclusive proof, and I will admit that I'm not always the best at explaining my thoughts. Regardless, I have decided that I should be willing to share these posts when I encounter someone online who makes an argument that I have already discussed.
Most lies start with a grain of truth. I agree that modern-day Americans are stupid. There's one big problem with this argument, and it can be addressed by adding a simple reality. It would be a mistake to end the Department of Education because of how stupid Americans have become with the Department of Education in place. Do you see the problem?
I know that correlation doesn't establish cause, but how can we become so stupid if the Department of Education is an effective tool to combat stupidity? At the very least, it should be obvious that the department isn't an effective tool against stupidity. Personally, I don't think this correlation is coincidence.
As much as I hate to do this, I'm going to go back to my school years. My teachers made a hard push to get students to fear the consequences of failing in school. This led to a serious culture of fear. If students formed the wrong beliefs, thoughts, and opinions, it could destroy their futures. As a result, most students deferred to their teachers to dictate their beliefs, thoughts, and opinions. This was not restricted to thoughts that fit right-or-wrong patterns.
What I observed as a student was government workers systematically destroying the minds of American youth. There's a simpler way to describe this that I embrace. I openly refer to the process as mental genocide.
The Department of Education certainly hasn't diminished the stupidity of Americans. There are certainly reasons to embrace a contrary viewpoint. The schools were actually designed to dumb down the American population. The trends we are seeing are not despite the Department of Education's role in the process. What we are seeing is actually by design.
