Be All, End All

We act as though the schools are the be all, end all of human existence. Perhaps we are actually right on this point.

The schools these days tend to define who we are. They push conformity while demanding a significant portion of our lives to be handed to them. We are not good people. We are not individuals. We are not even mentally competent humans. We are merely products of the schools.

Among the concepts that must be true in order for our schools to be beneficial to society is the idea that everything that we will ever need to know is already known. I personally don’t believe that. If mankind ever has to face an emergency that we weren’t already aware of centuries ago (and with our current mental abilities, there is no way that we would know about these things today), we will not be able to adapt. Rather than brilliant minds trying to save humanity, we could wind up with nothing but useless products of the schools. Because people essentially are the schools, our ability to survive unknown threats is minimal. Literally speaking, I think that qualifies as a “Be all, end all” scenario.
