Fifth grade was my worst year in elementary school. I had already seen the inefficiencies of schooling first hand. I also saw an example of teacher incompetence. We were assigned a project where we were supposed to sort decimals and paste them in order. This was nothing new for me. I was just about finished when my teacher approached me. He told me that I was doing the project incorrectly. Although I knew that he was wrong, I didn’t confront him. I went ahead and did things his way. I was just about finished… again. My teacher headed to the front of the class. He had made a mistake. The way to sort decimals is not how he told us. The way to sort decimals is how I had done the project initially.
Education has taken on contradictory meanings. Some of us reject using the term to refer to our schools. It can be stated that our schools are at war with education. This blog was initially developed for the purpose of sharing some quick (rather than conclusive) pro-education/anti-schooling thoughts. This has been expanded to include a voice from the other side of the war. Admittedly, this voice was picked for its tendency to show the absurdities of the pro-schooling/anti-educational side.
